Relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and markers of cardiovascular aging

Abstract

Vascular aging is a generalized process affecting all layers of the arterial wall. It is based on structural and functional changes in large and medium-sized arteries. Over time, structural modifications in the arterial wall occur, which makes the greatest contribution to increasing vascular stiffness and changes the systemic hemodynamics parameters. Based on the observation of hemodynamics key indicators in different age groups, a hypothesis about the existence of certain phenotypes of people for whom age-related changes occur too quickly, or vice versa, rather slowly has been developed. Early vascular aging is the accelerated development of corresponding changes in the cardiovascular system, in individuals with different categories of cardiovascular risk, and, due to various, not always obvious reasons. Not the last place in this process is occupied by the impact of cardiovascular risk factors.

The aim of this review is to discuss some well-known laboratory and instrumental indicators that can be used to diagnose premature aging of the cardiovascular system.
