State of the art in renal denervation

AbstractReview summarizes available data on renal denervation, including historical background, underlying pathophysiological mechanisms, results of preclinical and clinical studies. Criteria for referral to renal denervation are provided, emphasizing that this procedure should be used only in patients with true resistant hypertension. Suggestions regarding future targets are also described together with limitations and pending questions needed to be answered in order to fully define the role of renal denervation in the management of cardiovascular patients.
