Effect of spironolactone in resistant arterial hypertension

Abstract

This article is concerned with spironolactone for clinical management of patients with resistant arterial hypertension. The most significant studies were analyzed, in all of them there were results indicating the advisability of aldosterone antagonists (first of all, spironolactone) administration to patients with resistant arterial hypertension. Over the last years, bulk of evidence has been obtained not only for high efficacy of the drug, but also for its safety, in case of its administration in doses that were studied in the clinical trials. Spironolactone in combination with three-component antihypertensive therapy is a promising strategy for the treatment of resistant hypertension.
