Overweigh and obesity among Kemerovo population: frequency and association with cardiovascular risk factors

Abstract

Overweight is an actual issue of healthcare, either medical or a social problem. It should be told that we observe regional differences and correlations between obesity and another cardiovascular risk factors. Evaluating of cardiovascular risk factors can provide information to develop effective preventive programs for different regions of our country.

Aim - to evaluate incidence of cardiovascular risk factors and its association with overweight and obesity among Kemerovo population (ESSE-RF research).

Materials and methods. Materials and methods. In the frame of Multicenter observational study ECVD-RF (Epidemiology of Cardiovascular Diseases and their Risk Factors in Regions of Russian Federation) by the unique protocol the investigation of representative selections of adult population at the age of 25-64 y.o. The prevalence of the following risk factors (RF) of cardiovascular diseases was evaluated: high blood pressure, obesity, high total cholesterol, high glucose level or diabetes, smoking (tobacco consumption). To divide population into groups we used the WHO age-criteria. Statistical processing performed using Statistica 6.0 package.

Results. Overweight in Kemerovo is recorded in up to 88.2% cases and correlated with overweight and age and arterial hypertension.
