Mitral valve prolapse

Abstract

Mitral valve prolapse is the heritable disorder of the connective tissue and refers to a systolic billowing of one or both mitral leaflets into the left atrium with or without mitral regurgitation. Mitral valve prolapse is the most common cause of severe non-ischemic mitral regurgitation and mitral valve surgery.
