Left atrial deformation in patients with cardiological profile

Abstract

The relevance of research. The role of left atrial (LA) function in the development of chronic heart failure (HF) and the ability to predict the course of the disease, which is based on the parameters of its function are the subject of scientific study. Assessment of LA deformation parameters provides additional diagnostic information about the degree of diastolic dysfunction in patients with HF symptoms.

The aim of the study was to identify the features of the left atrium peak longitudinal deformation in patients with a cardiological profile and healthy individuals.

Material and methods. 78 patients with HF and 20 healthy individuals in the control group underwent echocardiography at rest and during stress tests, the systolic and diastolic myocardial function indicators, including speckle tracking data, were evaluated. Under normal distribution, the correlation matrix was built on the basis of Pearson correlation, otherwise, rank correlations and Fechner correlation were used to identify the relationship between evaluated parameters. To assess the possibility of predicting the values of the dependent variable, regression analysis with variance analysis (ANOVA) of the resulting equation was used.

Results. The study revealed a relationship between the value of PLAS and indicators characterizing both systolic and diastolic function of the left ventricle (LV DF). The value of PALS in healthy individuals is significantly higher than in patients with HF, which could be caused by a large proportion of patients with the relaxation retardation of LV DF disorders type. According to the data obtained, there is a progressive stepwise decrease in the values of LA deformation in patients with an increase in the degree of LV DF violation.

Conclusion. The value of the LA peak longitudinal deformation is associated with a number of indicators characterizing the systolic-diastolic function of the LV. The dependence of changes in PLAS degree on the severity of LV DF disorders may have a prognostic value in the development of CHF, which requires further observations.
